How Social distancing can improve your driving!

Today I thought I would talk to you about the latest buzz phrase that is taking over the country that is "SOCIAL DISTANCING" Please bare with me and I will show you its not new in any way shape or form.

The government has introduced social distancing to help save lives due to Covid/19..... and at the time of recording this video, the distance we should be,.. to stay safe from the virus is 2 metres, which is about six feet.

If it wasn't such a serious subject it would be quite humorous watching people go around objects, waive from their path to make sure they dont catch the Corona virus from other members of the public, and i'm sure you have even seen some people be quite aggressive whenever their two metre space has been encroached.

Well i'm here today to tell you SOCIAL DISTANCING isn't new, especially when it comes to driving, SOCIAL DISTANCING in your car will also help save lives.

What the hell is Graham going on about now? I hear you say.

Imagine now for me, every evening around 5:00pm on your chosen news channel the Priminister or other high ranking government offical stated that You should stay a safe distance from other vehicles or you stand a chance of dieing, what would you do ? I'm guessing you would heed the advice.

Guess what ? You have been told this advice from whenever you started to learn to drive. We just call it something different, we call it the TWO SECOND RULE and the governments throughtout the years have been advising this, just not on the news every night, but by using the HIGHWAY CODE, when was the last time you had a read of that. The TWO SECOND RULE is that important its been put in an OFFICIAL GOVERNMENT PUBLICATION !!!

So why do you need this two second "social distance" when driving. Simple !! Two seconds is not a long time, If something was to happen unexpectedly to the vehicle in front of you.... you would need a MINIMUM of two seconds to react and avoid a collision.

Everybodies reaction times are different, so I would advise being a little more than two seconds to give you every opportunity to STAY SAFE and STAY ALIVE have you heard that quote before? Im sure its all over your social media.

Do you know how to judge two seconds, trust me its a lot more than the two metres you are currently measuring to avoid the Corona Virus. Judging two seconds is easy..... Just watch the vehicle in front pass a lamp post, tree, sign or crossing and then count two seconds and you shouldnt get their until youve finished counting...... if you struggle to judge two seconds use your old driving instructors saying

"only a fool breaks the two second rule"

A driver's SOCIAL DISTANCE also increases when its raining or wet conditions, your reaction time may stay the same, but depending on the condition of your tyres, brakes etc it may take a bit longer and the government via the highway code recommend doubling the two second rule to FOUR SECONDS. So do you have any idea what it would be in icey conditions...... the highway code now tells you its up to 10 times the distance.

So please, please once this Corona virus is over don't forget about social distancing, because the rules stay the same, KEEP YOUR DISTANCE and STAY SAFE AND STAY ALIVE.
Thanks so much for reading and I hope to have another post for you soon
